What Makes Today a Good Day?
“How was your day?”
It's a question we ask those we care about, because it's important. A good life is made up of good days - and we all want our loved ones to live good lives.
Even though we are all different, we're all the same. The Tree of Fulfillment is What Makes a Good Day - and that tree has many branches:
Socializing: Spending time with friends and family. Laughing. Talking. Being involved.
Physical Exertion: Exercise, accomplishment, getting a little sweaty - whether working or working out.
Mental Engagement: Spending time in thought, learning, getting smarter, enrichment (education, knowledge, museums).
Emotional: Laugh. Cry. Love. Feeling your deeper feelings.
Spiritual: Connecting with your higher power, whichever that may be and in whatever way is meaningful to you.
Adding Value: Helping others (as a volunteer). Doing meaningful work. Providing for others.
Getting Help when you need it. Sometimes the difference between a good day and a bad day was whether or not you got a lift when you needed it.
Teaching and Sharing: Did you teach somebody something today?
Learning: Did you learn something new today?
Being Creative: Having the opportunity to create something, or spending time in a creative outlet.
Working towards a goal, whether it’s for self-improvement or a sense of accomplishment.
Exploring and Experimenting: Trying something new, or travelling to someplace you’ve never been before.
I would argue that when the day is over and you look back in retrospection, the more time you spent on these branches, and the more branches you touched, the better your day was.
I would also argue that stacking together fulfilling days over the course of weeks, months, and years, is what makes a fulfilling life.
At Project Better Life we try to help those who need it touch more of these branches more often, because everybody should get to experience fulfillment.
